A Royal Collaboration

American Poet and Advocate Mattie Stepanek once said, “Unity is strength…when there is teamwork and Royal Hawaiian Hotel Gala, Honolulu, Hawaiicollaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” Nowhere was this more apparent than at the Royal Hawaiian Re-Opening Gala.

Early on in the planning process, event organizers contracted David Beahm, one of New York’s top event designers, to help plan an occasion of epic proportions that would be remembered for years to come. His idea was to make the entire evening a progression, from past to present, from traditional to contemporary, all inspired by the Pink Palace of the Pacific.

Working from a distance, Beahm quickly realized he needed some event planning assistance and turned to Current Affairs for support five weeks out from the Gala event.

Royal Hawaiian Hotel Gala Entertainment, Honolulu, HawaiiWe were initially brought on to assist with the entertainment aspect: securing the artists, coordinating their appearances, developing the timeline and more. We adeptly threaded through the event a taste of some of the Pink Palace’s musical history by featuring 101-year-old ukulele legend Bill Tapia, the vibrant Ginai, the contemporary Makana and a youthful Taimane Gardner, all befitting the Royal's transition from Hawaii’s vintage era of tourism to the progressive courting of the affluent younger generations traveling today.

Our role soon evolved to include overall logistics and participation in Department Head meetings to ensure all aspects of the event were coming together seamlessly. In addition, with the threat of rain and thunderstorms looming, we were at the last minute able to call on our existing relationships with other Event Partners and negotiate some much needed tenting.

The end result was dubbed “the event of the Century,” demonstrating that through teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things truly can be achieved.
