Weddings are often signified by the joining of family and friends to celebrate the unity of a beloved couple. However, in order to make a wedding genuinely special, it must embody the unique dreams and desires of that specific couple. Couples envision their wedding day as being the happiest day of their lives, and it is our job to make this vision a reality.
This January, we were given the exciting challenge of creating an idyllic wedding for a high-profile celebrity couple. With this type of wedding, the location is crucial because it must embody an expert level of privacy in order to avoid prying paparazzi. The couple lived on the Mainland, so the bride’s parents asked our lead Event Producer to join them on a location scouting expedition. Kualoa had always been close to the bride’s heart, yet the weather in January can be gusty and wet on that side of the island

Located on O‘ahu’s windward coast, Kualoa offers the perfect backdrop for weddings and receptions, including a secluded white sand beach, lush green gardens, and picturesque overlooks. In our search for the perfect, private location amongst this sprawling 4,000 acres of natural beauty, the team took out four-wheel vehicles to scour the land for the venue to meet this particular couple’s criteria. Eventually, we rode into a space that was to become a ‘shangri la’ haven within a matter of months.
For the ceremony, we selected a newly created space down at the water’s edge. Chairs for 150 Guests were set up overlooking the ancient Hawaiian fishpond. The aisle was decorated with rustic, wooden box displays of white hydrangeas, branches, greenery and roses on either side of the entrance, and the chairs lining the aisle were draped with hydrangeas and sprigs of rosemary. At the end of the aisle stood a birch wood arch, beautifully decorated with white-and-green themed florals, for the bride and groom to say, “I do” beneath.

The breathtaking ceremony took place in the late afternoon, after which the Guests were chauffeured via bus through Ka’a’awa Valley for a brief sightseeing adventure. Guests were given the opportunity to step off of the bus in order to capture the spectacular shot of the sun’s last rays

Once Guests arrived at the reception location they were welcomed into a woodsy haven with cocktails and encouraged to mingle prior to the arrival of the bride and groom. Upon their grand entrance the newly married couple made their way across a wooden bridge adorned with sparkling strings of small, white farm lights overhead, and candles lining the sides of the bridge.
Everyone then moved inside the clear-roofed tent for a delicious dinner under the moon and stars. The décor was kept woodsy and natural, with accents of white and green in the floral designs and table settings. The Bride and Groom danced their way into dinner as the meal continued to the live music of Kapena, one of Hawaii’s premier island bands.

After the heartfelt and humorous speeches were eloquently delivered by close movie industry peers, the decadent, yet traditional cake was cut, and the dance floor filled up. The couple’s deejay, flown in for the occasion, performed their favorite tracks and everyone danced the night away until the wee hours of the morning. During this time, Guests were also able to snuggle up next to fire pits with blankets the couple brought in for our comfy lounge areas for the moments when Guests needed to recharge. In addition, hot chocolate and espresso drinks were offered to pair with a variety of late-night snacks. Family and friends were made to feel comfortable and wholeheartedly enjoy themselves, which was a major prerequisite of the couple’s, whose focus was on family and friends, not on themselves.

The wedded couple was amazed by Current Affairs’ ability to bring their vision to life while keeping the Client’s privacy intact. This aspect certainly added to the weddings vast success and the Clients were overwhelmed with gratitude. We exceeded their expectations, while remaining true to their vision. A simple quote from the Client, “Perfection. Thank you. JB” says it all. In the end, we sketched their dream wedding out of the vision that they provided and were able to bring it to life for them in a way that no one could have even predicted.
