Collaborating for Event Success

“It takes a village.”

With 32 years building out Current Affairs, we’ve dreamt a lot, created thousands of events, yet most importantly, we’ve embraced the art of collaboration.

To keep at the forefront of the Special Events industry, we’ve invested in our Team of talented experts and all of us are eager to learn more in order to grow the resources available to our Clients. A fountain of new ideas and ways to do things can be found through collaborating with other talented industry professionals – examples of incredible results can be seen in these two recent opportunities that Current Affairs was called upon to be an integral part of ‘the village’ that pulled off events that were the talk of the town during the last couple of months of 2016.

Hermes

For the grand opening of Hermes’ new location at Ala Moana Center, our long standing Client asked us to arrange a location scouting for options to hold a VIP after party. Hermes then put our Food & Beverage expert Sophie Hastings and Tiffany Tucker into collaboration with a New York-based production company that would build out the after party venue we had scouted. The evening kicked off with Sophie’s professional staff servicing an in-store event with delicately styled passed hors d’oeuvres.

Tiffany and her Team orchestrated the logistics of transferring all the Guests to the offsite location for a VIP party to remember. The new hip warehouse in Kakaako was literally transformed into half “cheeky tropic hawaiian” setting on one side and an après ski environment on the other. Projections of snow and snowboarders on the left, and sand and surfboards on the right side.

Our Team developed a delicious menu paired with themed cocktails by mixologist Chandra Lam Lacariello to complement the two themes. Among the specialty cocktails were a Traditional Moscow Mule, Late Check Out, Pineapple Pickers and Snowshoes. The menu included food stations featuring savory quiche bread pudding, creamy butternut squash soup, truffled mac & cheese, roast pork belly and boneless kalbi, among other items. There was also a raw bar, tabletop tiki snacks and tray-passed desserts. Hungry yet?

Hawaii Food & Wine Festival

The Ko Olina Resort Association has been a key sponsor of the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival’s signature event held on the lagoon beach and they were ready to ‘step it up a notch.’ Current Affairs was asked to be part of the Team. Our Event Production Expert, Brett Chronerberry was tasked with handling all the sponsorship relations – from organizing and writing sponsorship packets to check-in – in addition to providing staffing for Four Seasons Resort at Ko Olina and assisting Aulani with its tables.

The Four Seasons Resort loved our airplant and succulents designed centerpieces for the VIP tables. Our design Team also created a VIP entry piece, put their touch to the celebrity Chef tents to create separation and also conceptualized the vertical street sign-style banners.

Lastly, our Team provided the entertainment options for the event and then stage managed the run of show for the event. Our entertainment line up for the evening opened with the wonderful light hearted spirit of Tahiti Rey and then for something tropical paradise and different, we brought on Ron Artis II and The Truth, as the headliner – they looked great performing out on the stage that they set up out in the water. The evening culminated with a magical fireworks display and we worked with the sound and lighting company to cue all that for a spectacular finish.
